2021 Winning Projects

Over the course of 10 weeks, our 21 fellows divided themselves into six teams, where they received multiple trainings and worked together on researching, designing, and developing grass-root level projects, under the following categories: Education, Gender Equality, and Environmental Awareness. The six teams submitted six individual projects, out of which three community projects were selected as winners to be implemented and one research project: Impact of Lockdown on Women; Rise in Physical Abuse in South Asia.

Impact of Lockdown on Women; Rise in Physical Abuse in South Asia and The Mikania Podcast Project have been further shortlisted as this year’s running projects.

The Rising Voice

Under the Education Category, created a three-day panel-based workshops to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the educational system in the South Asia region, focusing on Nepal and Bangladesh. The workshops were conducted in Nepali, Bengali, and English with an audience of more than 900 individuals. This project is designed and implemented by Tasrif Nur Ariyan (Bangladesh), Prajwal Bhattarai, and Bishwokala Shyangtan (Nepal). This project received the award for being the Most Impactful Project and award for the Best Performing Team.

Research Paper

Impact of Lockdown on Women; Rise in Physical Abuse in South Asia by Aakriti Adhikari (Nepal), Mohd Shoib Ansari (India), Wajid Zahid (Pakistan) This is a desk research paper unde the Gender Equality Category, that aims to analyse the current correlation between the increase in domestic violence, gender-based violence and physical abuse during the lockdown imposed due to Covid-19. This project is awarded the award for Best Overall Project and award for Best Performing Team.

Mikania Podcast

Under the Environmental Awareness Category, created the first-ever podcast specially designed and dedicated to environmental awareness in Pakistan and Bangladesh, specifically discussing the impact of Covid-19 on the environment in the region. The podcast is recorded in Urdu and Bengali language so it can reach out to as many people as possible. This project is managed and implemented by Soban Shah (Pakistan) and Montasir Jim (Bangladesh) and has also been awarded the award for being the Most Innovative Project. Climate Tales

Under the Environmental Awareness Category, aims to collect and share local stories about the impact Covid-19 has had on the environment and local communities by Mata e Aziz (Pakistan), Tanjila Sultana (Bangladesh), Taimoor Siddiqui (Pakistan), Tirtharaj Choudhury (India).
